M–Sand production plants can be built close to where the product is consumed, lowering transportation costs and ensuring a consistent supply.
The use of artificial sand removes the need for riverbed digging to extract river sand, which can have negative environmental consequences such as water shortages and a threat to dam and bridge stability.
M Sand Disadvantages
Because the angular grain or flaky particles produced by poor crushing may require more water and cement, making it unsuitable for concrete formation.
For high-grade pumpable concrete in high-rise projects, the required cement is higher than for river sand, which may not be cost-effective.
What is River Sand
River sand is readily available on the market. It is widely used in buildings where river sand is a naturally occurring substance that can be extracted from riverbeds or riverbanks.
River sand, also known as natural sand, is fine sand commonly found around streams and river banks. The river sand’s softness makes it suitable for use in concrete and masonry. Plastering, RCC, and various other block works benefit from river sand. River sand is exceptionally unsustainable, and it is becoming increasingly scarce as construction activity increases.
River sand is available in two types on the market: Refined and Non-Refined
Refined Sand: Refined sand is a purely fined sand that contains no stones. It is primarily used for plastering walls and is therefore known as plastering sand. To get refined sand, additional manpower is required for the removal of pebbles & boulders while loading into the belching plant to avoid pump choke ups
Non-refined sand: It is also known as slab sand, which is a type of sand that can be used in concrete mixing, masonry work, and slab work.
M Sand Vs River Sand

Well, graded sand is helpful for gaining strength more as compared to poorly graded sand.
When compared to m sand, river sand has a higher permeability while used in concrete. However, M sand has a 2 to 4% water absorption rate. River sand, on the other hand, absorbs only 1.5 to 3% of the water.
But due to the property, crushed sand is better than natural sand, whereas concrete made with M Sand performs better than concrete made with river sand.
